I am an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker, counsellor and therapist and have worked for many years in varied health, mental health and palliative care settings with people looking for support for issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, self-harm, suicidality, adjusting to living with life-threatening and life-limiting disease and illness, grief and loss. I have long had a particular interest in understanding and working with people whose lives have been impacted by the effects of childhood trauma and abuse. I am familiar with issues faced by members of our LGBTQI communities and especially welcome members of our trans communities.

My therapy approach has grown from a life-time studying what it is that makes us human. Formally, this has focussed on studies on early human development, from psychodynamic through to biological, neurobiological and psychoneuroimmunological growth, health and mental health, palliative care and bereavement, trauma and modern developments in psychodynamics and psychotherapy. Through these studies, together with my own personal experience, I have gained some insight into how this process of growth develops throughout our lifetimes, how it may be severely damaged and also healed. We are relational beings: as we grow and develop in relationship, we can be damaged in relationship and through relationship we can heal.

My work is based around my
understanding of the effects of attachment disruptions and traumas, particularly through modern psychodynamic and Gestalt approaches, and I am deepening my practise through ongoing further studies in Gestalt Psychotherapy.

I commit myself to establishing a warm and non-judgmental environment in which you can feel safe to explore any themes that may be limiting your capacity to live fully and well.
